IDrive on "Extremely Slow Backup"

We do not restrict the bandwidth at our end and our product is designed to match your internet capabilities. There might be a network congestion elsewhere which might have caused backup/restore speeds to slow down.

BillT on "iBackup cannot see connection to mapped drives"

I'm seeing a repeated problem with several clients using iBackup for both cloud and local backups. The cloud backup seems to work ok, but the local backups - backing up to a share on a server as a mapped drive, seems to repeatedly and utterly fail. I've worked with support to try to identify why this seems to be happening so often at so many different accounts and the fix in the past has been "install the latest update of client software" and sometimes it will run and then eventually will fail again with the error "Unable to continue the scheduled Backup. Reason: Drive X:\ is not connected." although drive X is indeed connected and available to the user under which the program is running. I'm posting this here to see if anyone else is experiencing this issue and what they have been able to learn about what's causing it and ideally how we can fix it. I really like the iBackup product performance in general and certainly the costs for my clients, but this single irritating recurring problem and my difficulty in obtaining the level of support to resolve it is really starting to get to me. Anyone else seeing this issue with local backups using iBackup when the destination is a local network location that is a mapped drive?

Wildnorman on "IDrive says backup was success, when 10-20% of files have NOT been backed up"

I just bought a subscription and proceeded to backup my computer and external drive. At the end, the software reported that all but 2 files were backed up, yet when I checked my iDrive web account, it is clear that MOST of my external hard drive where MOST of my files resided was NOT backed up. It is not that these were excluded files because the only files excluded were on the c drive on my computer; the external drive has a different drive letter. What went wrong? How do I correct the problem?

I can confirm that idrive is insanely slow.
I have a 1TB account, and I've been backing up 600GB so far over several weeks.
It's uploading at 240 kB/s, and the upload speed test says 3.3 Mb/s (which is 412 kB/s).
So the speed test is faster than the backup upload (almost 2x), but in both cases it's dead slow.
I have 20 Mb/s upload speed (verified with speedtest.net at 19-21 Mb/s).
I've backed up several TB (including the same data using the same PC/hard drive) to other backup services MUCH faster (basically maxing out my upload speed).
Blaming "network congestion" on all upload speed issues is just wrong.
The only time upload speed can be legitimately slow, is if you upload many small files, and it becomes bound by the speed of the hard disk. But here even 100MB files are maxed out at ~240 kB/s.
The service is overall not bad, the software is fine other than that. But on speed, yeah, it's very slow.

I have same problem. Doing a restore of 451mb, only getting approx. 370kb/s speeds. Had this problem with uploading before. I have just tested my bandwidth and get 6mb/s upload and 30mb/s download speeds. Not happy. This will take days
I had problem before with Idrive when uploading and did the thing with tech support. Got response the problem was the internet, no problem on their side

I too have been having the exact same problem on my Mac (my PC laptop is fine). I'm trying a manual backup now, and we'll see how it goes.

I'm running idrive on a Windows 7 Enterprise and it keeps telling me "Unable to retrieve the contents. Try again."

I've tried:

1. Upgrading to the latest version
2. Disabling and Enabling sync
3. Logging out of the program and logging back in
4. Clean uninstalling the program and then reinstalling on admin

Does anyone have any other ideas?

Selective Sync works fine on my other laptop which is running on Windows 10.

Oops . . . I spoke too soon. Incremental backup appears to work for all files when the IDriveOne unit is connected with a USB connection to my computer (although it took about 30 minutes to build a file list and backup 12 photos (I have about ~85 GB total on the IDriveOne unit). Now, I am trying to do a backup when the unit is connected wirelessly to the router. The IDriveOne unit appears to be doing a full backup for many of the files that are already on the unit. It also appears that most of the files going through the full backup have incorrect dates generated by the program that originally generated those files. (such as 2097 or 2098 for the year).

Been running the exact same tests on my account today (before I saw your post).
Got the same strange results and did sweat a bit!
I don't really understand why there is a 'Empty trash' button if the files are not directly and permanently deleted!

On this page: https://www.idrive.com/help/Windows/trash
it states: Delete: 'Delete files permanently from Trash' ...

Anyway, thanks for the info.

@Londinense (or Idrive support)

1. To which location in your iDrive account were your files uploaded?

I will have to resort to iDrive Express as I have loads of data to upload.
Currently my backup set looks on 2 external local USB3 HDs that are hooked to my laptop (F: & H:). For now, I have only selected few folders as a test. But obviously I will have to move the uploaded iDrive Express data to the right folders so that subsequent incremental backups will add data to the same folder in [Computername]F: and [Computername]H:

2. Were you able to quickly move the folder from the iDrive Express upload to your corresponding [computername] folders ?

Thanks

Moving data within your account is fast. If you are sending us data using IDrive Express backup from your windows machine, file path in your account will mirror the file path on your computer.
