Same problem, are there any published/public solutions. I have seen and read many variations of this same problem and the answer seems to be forward to tech support. It would be nice to read a solution or have updated software.

This happens when a service like IDrive uses the full bandwidth of their internet connection. Ironically most people complain about slow uploads but this is caused by fast uploads, well, as fast as their upstream will allow.

The answer is to use QoS in the router, Netgear's is very good. If it's not working properly it usually means it needs to be told your correct up and down speeds.

Wow, this is getting ridiculous. I configured QoS on my router (Synology router), and I have limited the bandwidth from within the iDrive App, and I finally have this thing working.... slowly.

I have a 3mb upstream line outof my flat and 25mb downstream. After several trial and error settings, I finally have it dialed in at 300k, the point right before it will kill my connection. 300K!!! thats it. At this rate I will retire and move to the mountains before this ever finishes.

I think we have outgrown IDrive. This is practically useless.

We are currently paying for the IDrive service. Previously we had very few problems with this service, when it only backed up from a desktop computer (desktop server). Since migrating to a Synology NAS (no complaints about the NAS, wish I would have switched long ago), my backup to IDrive is practically useless. I have finally gotten the IDrive APP and my router dialed in (QoS and bandwidth restriction) to the point where it will not kill my connection, but I am limited to 300K upload.

With my current internet access plan I have a 3mb upload and 25mb download and the most I can get out of this app is 300k. I am testing other services.

I wish I would've read all of the posts on this page before signing up. I just opened an account and I am instantly regretting it. For hours, I've been trying to troubleshoot a terribly slow backup - which has also stopped several times now - to no avail.

It appears to me that IDrive's servers are very slow some times. I'm new to IDrive and am skeptical if I should stay with them. I tried restoring files using the android app, desktop software, and web. All of them are slow.

I have noticed that there sometimes seems to be a limit of 10000 files restored when doing a restore using Windows client v6.5.1.14. This seems to be undocumented. A workaround is to press the "Restore Now" button again after a restore has finished, which causes IDrive to continue where it left off.

Well, I'm already retired and I can tell you it's not worth moving to the mountains!

I'm not familiar with the Synology router but do use their NAS products so it should be good. The right place to control your internet connection is at the router, having done that you should be able to let IDrive, and any other app, go full speed and the router will sort it out, but it sounds like that's not happening.

Do you have another device you can use to try to max out your connection and see if it dies? Or have another app on the same device as IDrive's on that might be able to max out the connection and see if it dies the same way as using IDrive? We need to work out if it's IDrive, the device it's on, or your router/connection combo...

To me it doesn't sound like a totally IDrive problem - and I would never trust any app to throttle it's data connection as they are notoriously inaccurate and unreliable, hence get the router to do the work.

At step 2 (enter account) I see the following and am unable to proceed.

[false,"Failed to create Directory \/var\/services\/web\/idriveIt\/.cache: "]

Found the answer in a FAQ:

Make sure that you provide read / write permission to the web folder for the http group.

To provide Read / Write permission to 'Web' folder,

Navigate to 'Control Panel' > 'Group' > 'http' > 'Edit' > 'Permission'.
Provide 'Read/Write' permission to the folder 'Web' and click the 'OK' button.

------

?? Why is this not done at package installation ?? Would save people a lot of trouble.

I have the same problem too with slow backups / uploads and even very sluggish website. It is definitely not and issue due to my internet speed. Have tried it from different systems one being a VPS server with dedicated 100Mbps internet connection.

I don't think they throttle the speed from their side. If they throttled the speed we would all have more or less the same upload speed all the time.

This inconsistency and variation in upload speeds is a sign of limited bandwidth. More likely their server is overloaded and just doesn't have enough bandwidth to give decent upload speeds to all their customers.
